The motto of the Lilienthal Vision is an indeed idealistic but very optimistic, ageless and humanistic assumption far away from any ideology.
It is remarkable that in 1987 during the days of socialism such a slogan was allowed to be presented at a prominent public location. While reading the sources you quickly notice that the state security service may not have investigated very well. That “borders would lose their relevance completely” – this is not something you should have appealed for in 1 km distance from the Berlin wall …
And Lilienthal was right! Where air traffic happens between nations there is a basis for interchange and understanding, peace and reconciliation. Before the wall came down there has been no air traffic between both parts of Germany - now we can’t imagine life without it.
With possible construction of new buildings we should take advantage of the almost twenty years old tradition to present the Lilienthal Vision in the public. We would pay homage to Lilienthal and of course also to bring forward the good image of the local aviation training. The grand and ageless vision of the German flight pioneer would again be a privilege for the aviation training location Berlin-Schönefeld with a symbolic content and memo value.
A clear visible and worthy installation is essential. A board could provide some background information. A significant transformation into English language should also be placed. English friends helped me to find „The free flight of man - a vision of peace and reconciliation between nations“. Thanks Mike, Phil, Peter, Tim, Dave and his girlfriend.for the time they spent.
